The travel start-up is preparing for the post-pandemic era: Getyourguide appoints former Trainline CEO to its board and names Tanja Ruesch chief people officer.

Things are looking up again. After Getyourguide had to lay off a sixth of its staff last year, the start-up announces two new additions to its executive team: Tanja Ruesch becomes Chief People Officer and Clare Gilmartin joins the board. "Welcoming these two great professionals to our team is a huge win for GetYourGuide," says Johannes Reck, CEO of the startup founded in 2009.

Ruesch spent nine years at Amazon, most recently as Devices Global HR Director, and has worked in HR for twenty years. She credits the company's leadership culture for her move to the startup: "I was encouraged in my decision by the value the company's leaders place on its unique, people-centric culture," Ruesch says.

Joining as an independent board member is former CEO from travel company Trainline, Clare Gilmartin, who has twenty years of experience in the travel and technology industries. "I am very excited to join GetYourGuide's board to help the company with its long-term vision and post-pandemic growth," says Gilmartin.

Getyourguide just received an 80 million loan from a consortium of banks in February. The Corona pandemic has caused the startup's offering to book travel worldwide including excursions, tours or museum visits to plummet. With the loan, the startup is investing to be prepared for the aftermath of the pandemic. Reck believes he's setting the right stage by hiring Ruesch and Gilmartin: "They're the right leaders to guide us on our journey to not only provide memorable experiences for our customers post-Covid-19, but also to create an engaging, inclusive and high-performing culture for our employees."
