After successful financing, Lichtwart starts implementing its IoT platform in several international projects to increase the efficiency of lighting systems

Herford, September 13, 2024 - The Herford-based startup Lichtwart, which offers new solutions for the control and maintenance of lighting systems, has raised a seven-figure sum in a pre-seed financing round. Investors include BitStone Capital as lead investor, supported by Vireo Ventures and the angel network better ventures. The financing will be used to launch series production and roll out a major international project in collaboration with a leading illuminated sign manufacturer.

IoT service platform for lighting management

Lichtwart has developed an IoT service platform that efficiently controls and maintains lighting systems. The company is responding to three key challenges: A shortage of skilled workers in the electrical trade, rising energy costs and the pressure to reduce CO2. The focus is particularly on outdoor lighting close to buildings and illuminated advertising, which can be remotely controlled and monitored using the platform.

With our investment, we are helping to make outdoor lighting significantly more sustainable and enabling operators to save costs at the same time

Manfred Heid, Managing Director and BitStone founding partner.

Lichtwart's IoT solution enables companies to cut their operating costs by up to 60%, reduce environmentally harmful light emissions and contribute to ESG reporting. In collaboration with an international industry partner, the start-up is equipping several hundred projects on three continents.

Strong growth potential in the lighting market

Lichtwart operates in a growth market. Non-residential buildings in Europe and the USA alone generate annual operating costs of around 200 billion dollars. Due to the increasing demand for energy-efficient lighting solutions, the smart lighting market already recorded a sales volume of 10 billion dollars in 2021, and growth is expected to exceed 18 percent annually until 2030.

Partner for sustainable lighting

In addition to projects in infrastructure projects such as the Lübeck marina and petrol stations, Lichtwart works with well-known customers such as VARTA, SCHÜCO and HanseMerkur. The founders Gregor Giataganas and Johannes Mailänder are pursuing the goal of reducing light pollution and making the Milky Way visible again in the long term.
