Peak Quantum secures 2.2 million euros pre-seed
The quantum startup Peak Quantum has closed a pre-seed financing round of 2.2 million euros, bringing its total funding to around 5 million euros. The round is led by Cloudberry Ventures with participation from United Founders, QAI Ventures and Golden Egg Check, among others.
The capital will go towards the development of error-resistant quantum processors and the establishment of a European pilot production facility.
Hardware approach for fewer errors in quantum computing
Peak Quantum pursues a technological approach in which error resistance is integrated directly into the hardware. Instead of relying on subsequent error correction, the company develops qubits that are physically more stable.
For too long, the quantum computing industry has focused on scaling the number of qubits, but more qubits don't help if each one is unreliable. We are developing processors where error resilience is a physical property of the hardware itself.
Leon Koch, CEO Peak Quantum
The approach could reduce the complexity of quantum computers and accelerate their practical usability.
Building a European quantum chip infrastructure
A central component of the strategy is the establishment of the SUPREME pilot production facility as part of the EU Chips Act. Peak Quantum has been selected to operate this pilot line.
If Europe wants to play a leading role in quantum computing, it must develop and produce the hardware itself.
Thomas Luschmann, COO Peak Quantum
The aim is to create a scalable production infrastructure for quantum chips in Europe that is also open to external partners in the long term. COO Thomas Luschmann emphasizes the importance of this, as Europe needs to build up its own hardware expertise in order to be able to compete globally.
Strong scientific basis and network
The start-up emerged from Stefan Filipp's research group at the Walther Meissner Institute and is part of Munich Quantum Valley. Peak Quantum is also supported by UnternehmerTUM, one of the largest innovation centers in Europe.
Peak Quantum aims to use the funding to bridge the gap between research and industrial application. Fields of application range from materials research and logistics to security and optimization processes.
The investors see great potential: Europe could play a leading role in the field of quantum hardware and Peak Quantum is a central building block for this.
