Raisin DS affected by hacker attack

Last Tuesday, fintech Raisin DS was the victim of a hacker attack, with data from its Raisin Pension business unit being stolen. The leak has been fixed, customers and regulators have been informed.

Raisin DS has been hit by a hacking attack. As the fintech confirmed last Friday, criminals hacked data such as personal master data or banking information of Raisin Pension GmbH (formerly known as Fairr) on Tuesday a week ago. The part of the company offers retirement products. It is not known how many customers use this part of the business. In total, Raisin DS has 550,000 customers, after the fintech recently became a billion-dollar company by buying rival Deposit Solutions.

On Friday, Raisin DS informed the public and its customers, and regulators also got involved. The fintech said it was aware of "isolated cases" of affected customers being contacted by spam emails or phone calls, and asked everyone to be sure to change their access passwords. The most sensitive part, which has also been hacked, is so-called hashes, which can lead to the hacking of passwords for online access "with very considerable technical effort". Raisin DS stressed that at no point were custody assets at risk. It also said the "root cause of the data protection incident" had been resolved.

In 2019, Raisin bought the company, still known as Fairr, and incorporated it into its offering. The merger between Deposit Solutions and Raisin didn't take place until June, shortly after which Raisin DS became Unicorn.
