A current ranking of the platform Weltsparen lists the cities of Germany according to attractiveness for founders and surprises: Because not Munich or Berlin occupy the first places.

If you are starting up, you also have to ask yourself where the best location is for your own concept. A new study comes to the conclusion: The best city in Germany for this is Dortmund, followed by Hanover and Karlsruhe. Among the countries of the European Union, Germany is in first place as a start-up location, Romania is in second place and Slovakia is in third place. The study was conducted by Weltsparen, a platform for financial investments that belongs to the fintech Raisin DS, which has just become a unicorn.

For the results, Weltsparen evaluated factors such as the population of cities in Germany, office rents, average salary and Google searches. One thing that stands out: The other leaders of such rankings don't do so well. Munich is in ninth place, but Berlin is only in 21st place. Both cities are the outliers when it comes to office rents, and they are the only ones to charge more than €1,000 per month for a workplace on average. The cheapest place to rent is Münster, which comes fourth overall in the study.

In Munich there is at least one consolation for founders: although they have to pay a lot for rent, they also receive the highest salary. The average is 4,200 euros, no other city cracks the 4,000 euro mark. Here the second place surprises: In the niedersächsiche Braunschweig gets founders on the average 3,349 euro per month.

The evaluated search inquiries with Google show however that the interest in the usual Start UP cities such as Berlin, Munich and Cologne and/or. Stuttgart lies. Overall, four of the top ten cities are located in North Rhine-Westphalia, making it the most attractive federal state in which to start a business: In addition to Cologne (seventh place), Dortmund also ranks first, as do Münster (fourth place) and Duisburg (sixth place).
