A new innovation and technology location is being created in the Hanover region. An important milestone for the project has been reached with the conclusion of a commercial lease agreement for the future techfactory at ONE TechCampus Garbsen. The aim of the project is to create a modern ecosystem for start-ups, science, high-tech companies and joint innovation projects. The new location is being built directly on the mechanical engineering campus of Leibniz Universität Hannover in Garbsen.

Rental agreement concluded for 4,600 square meters

Technologiepark Region Hannover GmbH has signed a rental agreement for around 4,600 square meters of space with ONE TechCampus Garbsen GmbH & Co. KG.

The space will be part of the emerging ONE TechCampus Garbsen, which will comprise a total of around 62,000 square meters in seven buildings. The technology campus is being built to the west of the mechanical engineering campus and is set to become a central location for research, innovation and start-ups.

Start-ups, research and technology transfer

The future techfactory will be operated by Technologiepark Region Hannover GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Hannover Region.

The plans include:

  • Work and development areas for start-ups and scale-ups
  • Project spaces for cooperation between companies and students
  • Research and development areas
  • Workshops, makerspaces and experimental laboratories
  • Event and seminar rooms

The project aims in particular to strengthen the transfer of knowledge and technology between the university, industry and the start-up scene. At the same time, the techfactory supports Leibniz Universität Hannover's "third mission", i.e. the transfer of scientific knowledge to business and society.

Hannover Region secures long-term funding

To support the project, the Hannover Region plans to provide Technologiepark Region Hannover GmbH with an annual grant of up to 1.35 million euros between 2028 and 2037. The financing is subject to corresponding budget resolutions.

Important foundations for the project have already been laid. These include the selection of the project developer ONE TechCampus Garbsen GmbH & Co. KG and the establishment of the operating company, which was endowed with a capital reserve of around four million euros.

Move-in planned for 2028

The move into the new space is planned for the third quarter of 2028. By then, the premises will be comprehensively equipped, including with modern furnishings, event and media technology. At the same time, the development of the personnel structures will begin this year.

With the ONE TechCampus Garbsen, a new innovation location is being created that will bring science, entrepreneurship and technology development in the Hannover Region closer together.
