Tesla Model Y production to start in Grünheide as early as this year

Tesla not only doubled its sales in the second quarter of 2021, but also delivered more cars than ever before. There is also news for Germany.

News from Grünheide: Tesla announced that the Model Y will be produced in the factory near Berlin this year, but not this summer as planned. The demand in Germany is currently served mainly from the factory in Shanghai. At a shareholder meeting, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and CFO Zach Kirkhorn discussed second-quarter 2021 results.

The shortage of chips and raw materials that hit companies hard with the Corona pandemic isn't leaving Tesla unscathed: the company postponed delivery of its semi truck until 2022. Musk said the shortage of critical parts for carmaking is especially noticeable in Fermont and Shanghai.

In the second quarter, Tesla's revenue was twelve billion US dollars, in 2020 it was still six billion US dollars in the comparable period. Tesla delivered 200,000 cars, the most ever. The stock was up 1.3 percent Monday night. Furthermore, Tesla's investment in Bitcoins was of interest: the group had invested 1.5 billion US dollars in Bitcoins in February, now Tesla posted a write-down of 23 million US dollars in connection with the Bitcoins.
