Tesla is allowed to continue building

A security deposit of 100 million euros secures the US company the continued construction of its factory in Brandenburg. Previously, a construction stop had been imposed because Tesla had not performed.

Actually, the production of Tesla in Grünheide should start already in July. But the company is building so far only with preliminary building permits, a full approval is still pending. Now Tesla has deposited 100 million euros as security to cover possible dismantling costs. The whole thing is set out in a letter of comfort by a German limited company, which thus secures Tesla's possible payments. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Ministry of the Environment in Brandenburg on Friday.

Actually, the deadline for the security deposit had already expired on December 17. When Tesla didn't pay, construction was halted. Then there was an extension for January 4, later Tesla and the state of Brandenburg agreed on January 15. Finally, there was another five-day extension. Now Tesla has paid.

Ever since construction began, there have been repeated disputes about Tesla's factory. Several environmental associations complain, among other things, because of the high water consumption or the endangerment of rare animal species. Tesla paid the security deposit to a German subsidiary. The citizens' initiative Grünheide criticizes that the state thus has no access to the money.
