Timefold Raises $13 Million
The Belgian software company Timefold has closed a Series A funding round of $13 million. The round is led by Alstin Capital, with Kompas VC and existing investors Lakestar and Smartfin also participating. The company plans to use the new capital to accelerate its expansion in the U.S. and drive the development of its platform for planning and routing optimization.
Timefold develops APIs for complex planning tasks in enterprises. Its solutions are used in areas such as field service assignments, shift scheduling, and resource management. Customers including NEC, CBRE, Lufthansa, Orange, ADP, and Palantir are already integrating the technology into business-critical processes.
AI Needs More Than Language Models
While generative AI is getting better and better at understanding queries and generating content, it often reaches its limits when it comes to operational planning tasks. Shift schedules, service routes, and workforce planning must be accurate, compliant with regulations, and reproducible.
Timefold combines AI applications with deterministic optimization algorithms that can automatically make complex decisions. This makes it possible, for example, to plan technician assignments, compensate for last-minute absences, or create shift schedules that take working time regulations and qualifications into account.
ARR Quadrupled
The market is responding positively to this approach. By 2025, Timefold had quadrupled its annual recurring revenue (ARR). More and more companies are integrating the APIs directly into their software solutions and operational processes.
The results are truly impressive: With Timefold’s help, an international real estate group reduced travel times by up to 33 percent and the number of kilometers driven by 43 percent. A U.S. staffing agency shortened a planning process from ten weeks to just ten minutes.
Infrastructure for the Next Generation of AI
As autonomous AI agents gain prominence, the need for reliable decision-making logic is also growing. Timefold therefore does not see itself as a traditional AI startup, but rather as an infrastructure provider for the next generation of intelligent enterprise software.
The company is built on a proven open-source optimization engine and packages complex mathematical optimization methods into easy-to-use APIs. The goal is to make planning optimization a standard component of modern enterprise software.
For investors, that is precisely the key point. While many AI applications focus on creativity, Timefold solves a problem where reliability and precision are paramount.
