Charles receives 6.4 million euros

Artjem Weissbeck is co-founder of Kapten and Son and Andreas Tussing is a former McKinsey consultant. Now the two were able to raise 6.4 million euros in a seed financing round.

Conversational Commerce is the name of the area that the start-up Charles is also focusing on: Via messenger like Whatsapp, companies should advise their customers, who then order and pay. In Asia, this technology is already used to order almost everything, here in Germany, the service is still being developed. Founded in 2020, Berlin-based start-up Charles offers such software and has now raised €6.4 million in a seed financing round. Investors are Accel and HV Capital.

"Our vision is to make commerce more human again by connecting chat and buying," says co-founder Artjem Weissbeck. "We offer businesses a completely new sales channel that allows them to offer true personalization to their customers." Andreas Tussing adds, "Several of our customers already make more than 25% of their sales via WhatsApp."

Investor Accel also sees the conversational commerce space as promising: "It's a huge trend that will completely change the way brands interact with their customers and pave the way for new disruptive tools," says Luca Bocchio of Accel London. They see great potential in Charles: "Artjem and Andreas are ambitious, driven entrepreneurs who have identified a big problem through their own experience. They have a clear understanding of the product they need to build and a vision of what they want to be."
