Commerzventures launches 300 million euro fund

The fund is particularly aimed at fintechs and insurtechs that have ambitions to become climate neutral.

Commerzventures is launching its third fund with a total volume of 300 million euros, the investor announced on Linkedin. The investor had launched the first fund in 2014. It comprised 100 million euros. In 2019, the second fund followed with a volume of 150 million euros. Now the total volume under management increases to 550 million euros.

The investor is also introducing carbon offset financing for each new portfolio company to make them more climate-friendly. "With our access to high-quality offset projects, we can help them make credible net-zero commitments while they work to reduce emissions," explains Paul Morgenthaler, partner at Commerzventures.

Commerzventures, founded in 2014, has invested in 28 companies to date. The investor says 30 percent of its previous investments have turned into unicorns. Among them, it says, are even two decacorns, Etoro and Marqeta. The VC describes itself as Europe's leading fintech climate investor. With the launch of its third fund, Commerzventures is doubling its headcount. The focus of its investments to date has been particularly on Europe, the USA and Israel. Now the investor also wants to gain a foothold in Africa.
