LVM invests in travelträger
LVM Versicherung is expanding its involvement in the mobility market and acquiring a stake in Münster-based travelträger Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH. Founded in 2022, the company offers the temporary rental of roof boxes, bicycle and rear carriers throughout Germany.
The investment is not a starting point, but a deepening of an existing partnership: the two companies have been working together since 2024. This cooperation is now being expanded in terms of strategy and capital. The amount of the investment was not disclosed.
Mobility without ownership
travelträger has an idea for additional storage space when traveling by car. Instead of buying expensive roof boxes or carrier systems and storing them permanently, customers can rent them flexibly.
Bookings are made digitally, with delivery and installation carried out via a network of around 50 service points in Germany. The company employs around 100 people and manages all operational processes from Münster.
Demand increases significantly during vacation periods in particular, creating a market that is highly seasonal but structurally growing.
LVM's strategic logic
For LVM, the investment is part of a broader strategy: insurance products are increasingly being linked to concrete service offers in everyday life. LVM policyholders can already book transportation solutions at a discount via a customer portal. In addition, optional insurance cover can be taken out for rental accessories.
This creates an integrated offer between:
- Insurance
- mobility service
- digital platform solution
LVM deliberately remains outside the operational business and acts as a strategic partner.
Münster as a shared locational advantage
Both companies are based in Münster, an aspect that is explicitly emphasized in the partnership. In addition to capital and strategy, regional proximity also plays a role in the collaboration. And anyone who has ever visited Münster knows about the number of bicycles in the immediate vicinity.
Comments on the investment
With this investment, we are further developing our offerings in a targeted manner and linking insurance and service even more closely.
Andreas Laukötter, Head of Group Development at LVM
The aim is to offer policyholders additional benefits in their everyday mobile lives and at the same time strengthen a local company.
The move is also seen as an important milestone by founders. Philipp Güntzel, CEO of travelträger, speaks of more planning security and a deeper partnership. Cooperation with a strategic partner from the same region is particularly valuable.
Insurers are increasingly developing into platform players that not only insure risks but also integrate specific everyday services. travelträger is thus becoming part of a larger ecosystem between mobility, service and insurance. The actual problem with travelträger may seem trivial, but especially in the current AI environment, it is a refreshingly down-to-earth business idea.
