The European Investment Council has invested in a total of 65 start-ups and companies across Europe. Among them are the German start-ups Orbem, Smartlane and Nyris.

Eleven start-ups and companies from Germany have received funding from the European Innovation Council. The EU is funding them with grants of up to 2.5 million euros and a maximum equity investment of 15 million euros. Around 4,000 start-ups from all over Europe had applied for the funding.

Among the German funded companies is Smartlane. Founded in 2015, the start-up aims to optimise the logistics industry with artificial intelligence. To this end, Smartlane offers cloud-based software that plans transport routes for freight forwarders. The start-up Orbem from Garching is also receiving funding. It uses artificial intelligence to classify and analyze objects quickly and accurately. For example, Orbem can identify the sex of chicks even before the eggs have hatched. This prevents male and sick chicks from hatching and prevents animal suffering.

The tech start-up Nyris is supported by the European Innovation Council with five million euros. "We are extremely pleased that the jury has recognized the potential of our technology," says CEO Anna Lukasson-Herzig. With Nyris' app, users can quickly find spare parts via a visual search.

Other funded German companies and start-ups include Seqana, Nebuma, Stabl Energy, Ithera Medical, Traceless Materials, RadonTec, GrownValve and Prosion. They were selected by an independent jury. In total, the EU supported innovations in the fields of health, technology, energy and biotechnology with around €1.1 billion.
