The Munich-based Agri-PV company Feldwerke GmbH has concluded financing of 12 million euros. The capital comes from a French debt fund specializing in renewable energies. The company intends to use the revolving credit facility to realize an Agri-PV portfolio with a total output of around 100 megawatts over the next 18 months.

Financing marks next phase of growth

Feldwerke GmbH was founded in 2023 and says it has already installed more than 20 MW of agri-PV capacity. This includes the largest agri-PV plant in southern Germany in Oberndorf am Lech.

The new financing structure will enable the company to develop and build several projects in parallel in future. The special feature of the revolving credit line is that as soon as a project is connected to the grid or refinanced on a long-term basis, the capital is available again for further projects.

1 gigawatt of installed capacity by 2030

The financing is specifically tailored to Feldwerke GmbH's business model. The company is pursuing the goal of building up a total of 1 gigawatt of installed capacity by 2030. Feldwerke is currently developing around 50 projects with a total output of more than 400 MW.

Managing Director Nils Kuchenbuch describes the financing as an important milestone and a signal that institutional investors are increasingly recognizing the potential of Agri-PV.

Dual use of agricultural land

Feldwerke GmbH specializes in so-called agri-photovoltaic systems, in which agricultural land is used simultaneously for energy generation and agriculture. The solar modules are installed on tracking support systems. The areas under and between the rows of modules can still be used for arable farming or grazing.

Single-axis tracker systems are used, which are geared towards the course of the sun and should therefore achieve higher energy yields. As a result, the electricity harvest is better, especially in the valuable morning and evening hours.

According to the company, the concept is becoming increasingly important for institutional investors, banks and infrastructure financiers. The main advantage of Agri-PV lies in the double added value: energy production and agricultural use of the same area. The financing French fund focuses in particular on the construction and development phase of solar projects in Europe and has experience in structuring project financing in the renewable energy sector.

Sustainable energy and agriculture

Feldwerke GmbH sees Agri-PV as an important building block for a sustainable European energy supply and resilient agriculture. According to the company, it also actively involves local investors and municipalities in its projects.
