Flixbus plans new route network with Greyhound

Flixbus bought the US industry giant Greyhound for 172 million US dollars. Now company boss Schwämmlein is talking about his plans for the company.
Last week, Flixbus announced that it was taking over the US company Greyhound in order to conquer the American market. From his temporary office in Texas, company boss André Schwämmlein now reports on the purchase: "We see great potential in attracting new customers - with a strong brand and uncomplicated booking. We want to combine the Greyhound and Flixbus networks and strengthen distribution," Schwämmlein tells Focus Online.
The founder sees the bus as the vehicle of the future that can replace short-haul flights: "It's no longer a secret that the long-distance bus is the most environmentally friendly means of long-distance transport in terms of CO2 emissions per passenger kilometer," says Schwämmlein. He also sees increased demand in the USA: "We know that there is definitely a desire for sustainable mobility in the USA and that people want an alternative to private cars - we want to give them this alternative with a large network and attractive ticket prices."
Flixbuses - unmistakably green in design - have also been operating in the USA since 2018. However, the acquisition gives Schwämmlein a different position in the market for his concept: "Greyhound is a real icon with over 100 years of history," Schwämmlein tells Focus Online. "What is particularly interesting for us is that Greyhound has a nationwide network. We would have needed a lot of time to build this up on our own," says the founder.
