Flixbus plans new route network with Greyhound

Flixbus bought the US industry giant Greyhound for 172 million US dollars. Now company CEO Schwämmlein is speaking out about his plans for the company.

Last week, Flixbus announced it was acquiring U.S. company Greyhound in a bid to conquer the American market. Now company CEO André Schwämmlein is speaking out about the purchase from his temporary office in Texas: "We see great potential in appealing to new customers - with a strong brand and uncomplicated booking. We want to combine the Greyhound and Flixbus networks and strengthen distribution," Schwämmlein says of his plans to Focus Online.

The founder sees the bus as the vehicle of the future that can replace short-haul flights: "It is no longer a secret that the long-distance bus is the most environmentally friendly means of long-distance transport in terms of CO2 emissions per passenger kilometer," says Schwämmlein. He also sees an increased demand in the USA: "We know that the desire for sustainable mobility is definitely there in the USA and people want an alternative to the private car - we want to give them this alternative with a large network and attractive ticket prices."

Since 2018, Flixbuses - unmistakable by their green design - have also been operating in the USA. With the acquisition, however, Schwämmlein has a different position in the market for his concept: "Greyhound is a real icon with a history of over 100 years," Schwämmlein tells . Focus Online. "What's particularly interesting for us is that Greyhound has a nationwide network. To build that up on our own, we would have needed a lot of time," says the founder.
