Gorillas takes over competitor Frichti

The Berlin-based delivery service completes its first acquisition, strengthening its position in the French market.
The Berlin-based start-up Gorillas is buying the French delivery service Frichti. A possible takeover was already under discussion at the end of January(we reported).
So far, Frichti and Gorillas have competed in the cities of Paris, Lille and Bordeaux, among others. Now Gorillas has bought the competitor, according to the news agency DPA. However, it is not known how expensive the takeover was. In France and Belgium, Frichti will continue to operate under its existing brand name, it said.
According to the company, the start-up, which was founded in Paris in 2015, already supplies food to around 450,000 customers in France and Belgium. The startup also sells its own products such as beer, cookies and eggs. Frichti claims to have raised around €100 million since its inception. Investors include Alven Capital, Felix Capital and Verlinvest.
Unlike Gorillas, Frichti has experience developing its own products and delivering ready-to-eat meals. With the help of Frichti, Gorillas now wants to see how it can further scale the business, according to a Gorillas spokesperson.
