Horizon Energy Germany provides SpotmyEnergy with 50 million euros

HED and SpotmyEnergy rely on a proven financing model to drive the rollout of digital electricity meters in Germany
Cologne, March 19, 2025 - Horizon Energy Deutschland GmbH (HED) and SpotmyEnergy (Spot) have entered into a strategic partnership to drive the rollout of smart meters in Germany. HED is providing an initial financing volume of 50 million euros for the next two years.
Our aim is to enable a smooth rollout and to play an active role in shaping the energy transition.
Emil Bruusgaard, Managing Director of HED
Innovative financing model without upfront investment
As the first Meter Asset Provider (MAP) with a local team in Germany, HED takes over the financing of smart meter hardware, including modern metering equipment, gateways and control boxes. This allows SpotmyEnergy to focus on customer growth and operations without having to make its own upfront investments.
Smart financing concepts such as the MAP model help us to significantly accelerate the rollout.
Jochen Schwill, Founder and Managing Director of SpotmyEnergy
MAP model as a catalyst for the energy transition
The MAP model has already proven its worth in the UK and contributed to the rapid expansion of digital metering systems. While the smart meter rollout in Germany is still in its infancy, the model could play a key role in accelerating the transformation of the energy sector.
By working closely with manufacturers, metering point operators and energy suppliers, the MAP model minimizes risks and creates an efficient financing structure for the smart meter rollout.
