Nets already held a stake in Orderbird via its German subsidiary Concardis before the takeover. Now the companies are joining forces.

Nets, a Nexi Group company, has acquired Orderbird. In future, the start-up will operate as an independent business unit within the Nexi Group with the existing management team. The Orderbird brand will also be retained. Following the takeover, Nets will hold all shares in the start-up - the takeover is said to have cost around 100 million euros.

Orderbird has been in existence since 2011 and offers digital POS systems for the hospitality and retail sectors. The Orderbird Pro product is an iPad cash register with which restaurant operators can take orders, bill and create reports for the tax office. There is now also a mobile cash register for Android devices. The start-up is represented in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France and claims to have more than 14,000 customers.

The takeover by Nets is now intended to drive Orderbird's international growth and help improve its existing products. Nets, on the other hand, will benefit from Orderbird's expertise in communicating with small and medium-sized companies and in developing software solutions. Nets already held a stake in the Berlin-based start-up via its German subsidiary Concardis before the takeover. At the end of 2021, the paytech increased its stake in Orderbird once again.

"We are delighted to have Nets / Nexi Group as a partner at our side," says Orderbird founder and chief strategist Jakob Schreyer. "With this partnership, it was particularly important to us that we at orderbird can continue to focus fully on the further development of our leading offerings and the needs of our customers. This allows us to concentrate fully on our next goal of further expanding our vertical software solutions for payment transactions and establishing orderbird as a permanent fixture in the payments industry."
