The cleantech start-up PolymerActive GmbH has closed a Series A financing round of 2.5 million euros. The round was led by Syngroh Capital.

The company intends to use the fresh capital to significantly increase its production capacities and open up new markets for its pollutant adsorbers.

Upcycling plastic into industrial filters

PolymerActive develops filter materials for cleaning wastewater and exhaust air, made from recycled plastic waste. The basis is a patented process in which polyamide waste is chemically processed and converted into porous filter granules.

We are grateful that the Grohe family of entrepreneurs is supporting us not only with capital, but also with their wealth of entrepreneurial experience in scaling companies and opening up new markets.

Moritz Ruff, CEO of PolymerActive

The idea was born back in 2017 while the founders were studying at Furtwangen University. The process was patented in 2021 and the company was founded.

Production to be significantly expanded

PolymerActive plans to use the funding to significantly scale up its production. The current capacity of around one cubic meter is to be increased five to tenfold. This is considered a major step forward in order to meet increasing demand and drive market entry into other industrial sectors.

Since its foundation, PolymerActive has grown to around 15 employees and successfully entered the market. The cooperation with Syngroh has already existed for several years and will now be further intensified as part of the Series A round.

Syngroh Capital expands its investment strategy

For Syngroh Capital, the investment marks its entry into venture capital investments. Until now, the focus has been on established medium-sized companies.

The Grohe family has been enthusiastic about the mission of converting plastic waste into recyclable materials in order to treat industrial wastewater from the very beginning.

Dr. Ralph Becker, Managing Director of Syngroh Capita

In future, the investor wants to invest more in sustainable technologies and resource efficiency. Particularly in areas where know-how from the Hansgrohe family business can also be brought in.

Focus on sustainability and industrial applications

PolymerActive addresses two key challenges at the same time: reducing plastic waste and improving industrial environmental standards.

By converting plastic waste into functional filter materials, the company is positioning itself at the interface between the circular economy and industrial water and air purification.
