Perfood receives millions from Bonventure

The start-up aims to prevent migraines and blood sugar disorders with personalized nutrition programs. Perfood is now receiving money from an impact investor for this.

Perfood has received a single-digit million sum from Munich-based investor Bonventure. The health startup plans to use the capital to bring its digital migraine prophylaxis to market and drive clinical trials on type 2 diabetes and other diseases.

Dominik Burziwoda, Torsten Schröder, Christoph Twesten and Christian Sina founded Perfood in 2017 at the University of Lübeck. The start-up specializes in nutrition programs, digital therapies and health research. Already on the market is the app "Million Friends," a personalized nutrition program that helps with weight loss, stabilizes blood sugar in the long term and thus prevents disease.

"If everyone were to eat a personalized diet and thus keep their blood sugar levels low-stable, they would be giving their bodies a sustainable armamentarium against many diseases," says Perfood co-founder and CEO Dominik Burziwoda. "In simple but targeted nutritional adjustments, we have found a completely new active ingredient that gets to the root of many metabolic problems."

He also said that digital migraine prophylaxis is already showing good results in an application trial: Participants were able to reduce the frequency of their migraine attacks by an average of 60 percent. The Perfood AI helps them to do this: based on blood glucose measurements with a sensor and diary entries on physical activity, sleep and symptoms of the disease, it creates a personalized diet plan.
