Plans for future fund become more concrete

Last year, the German government announced the Future Fund, which is intended to make up for the lack of venture capital in Germany. The first building block was launched in March with the Deep Tech Fund, and now there is news about another building block.
Back in 2020, the Federal Ministry of Economics announced that it was setting up a future fund to provide more venture capital for start-ups. It is to contain up to ten billion euros and be divided into various components. The first details are now available: one component involves increasing the promotional capital of KfW Capital, the investment arm of the state-owned promotional bank KfW. It is to be increased from 25 to up to 50 million euros per fund. This could enable larger financing rounds for start-ups. A total of 2.3 billion euros will be available for this purpose by 2030.
Another building block is the expansion of credit options. A total of 3.5 billion euros will be invested in growth financing or growth funds for start-ups. The "DeepTech Furture Fund" is also part of the Future Fund, which was launched in March and has one billion euros available for the next ten years. It invests in start-ups together with private investors.
"Together with our existing programmes and the additional 10 billion euros for the Future Fund, we will mobilize more than 50 billion euros in venture capital for start-ups over the next few years together with private and public partners. This will set the benchmark in Europe," says Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier (CDU).
