Plans for future fund become more concrete

Last year, the German government announced the Future Fund, which is intended to help make up for the lack of venture capital in Germany. In March, the first building block was launched with the Deep Tech Fund, and now there is news about another building block.

Already in 2020, the Federal Ministry of Economics announced that it would set up a Future Fund to provide more venture capital for founders. The fund is to contain up to ten billion euros and be divided into various components. Now there are first details: The content of one component is the increase of the funding capital of KfW Capital, the investment arm of the state development bank KfW. It is to be increased from 25 to up to 50 million euros per fund. This could enable larger financing rounds for start-ups. A total of 2.3 billion euros will be available for this purpose by 2030.

Another building block is the expansion of credit opportunities. 3.5 billion will be invested in growth financing or growth funds for start-ups. In addition, the "DeepTech Furture Fund" is part of the Future Fund, which already started in March and has one billion euros available for the next ten years. It participates in startups together with private investors.

"Together with our existing programmes and the additional €10 billion for the Future Fund, we will mobilise more than €50 billion in venture capital for start-ups in the next few years, together with private and public partners. With this, we are setting the benchmark in Europe," says Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU).
