Porsche takes over Fazua

The sports car manufacturer acquires the self-proclaimed pioneer for so-called "light e-bikes".

Porsche only joined Fazua in January of this year with a twenty percent stake. Now the sports car manufacturer is taking over all shares in the start-up.

Johannes Biechele founded Fazua in Ottobrunn near Munich in 2013. The start-up develops drive systems for e-bikes. In 2015, the company presented its concept: A lightweight drive system that combines motor and battery and can be integrated into the bike's down tube. "Among experts, Fazua is known as the founder of the 'light eBikes' category - a company with a high level of innovation that perfectly matches the pioneering spirit of the Porsche brand," says Porsche's deputy CEO Lutz Meschke.

Porsche already owns a majority stake in another e-bike company, the Croatian brand Greyp. Now the automaker wants to pool its e-bike expertise in two joint ventures with Dutch company Ponooc Investment. The first of the two joint ventures is to develop, manufacture and distribute Porsche e-bikes, while the other is to develop technological solutions for micromobility.
