The start-up from Paderborn sells e-bikes and offers matching service packages on a subscription basis. Now an investor is getting on board.

E-bike provider Smafo receives a seven-figure investment from Stuttgart-based early growth investor Engelhardt Kaupp Kiefer & Co.

"We know that the simplicity of our product makes people want to cycle more," says CEO and co-founder Sven-Ulrik Schneider. In 2018, he founded the start-up together with André Thiele. The founding duo wants to give its customers the easiest possible access to e-bikes. Mobility should be sustainable and inexpensive, they say. Smafo offers e-bikes for 1,999 euros. In addition to e-bikes, the start-up also offers services in a subscription model. Customers can buy insurance packages, protection letters, a replacement service, GPS tracking, digital locks and service booklets from the startup, among other services.

"We are looking forward to working with the Smafo team, who convinced us not only with their content expertise, but also with their passion for their vision," says Roman Loch, Managing Director of Engelhardt Kaupp Kiefer & Co.
