Silicone reimagined: Thanks to its patented SAM technology, Spectroplast is revolutionizing industrial manufacturing with biocompatible, flexible materials

Coburg, Starnberg, November 18, 2024 - Spectroplast AG, a Swiss startup in the field of industrial 3D printing with silicone, has successfully closed its Series A financing round. The round was led by HZG Group, a renowned investor in the field of additive manufacturing, together with existing investor AM Ventures.

With the support of HZG and AM Ventures, we want to establish silicone as a new high-end material in industrial 3D printing and take elastomer technology into new areas of application.

Dr. Pablo Hafner, Chairman of Spectroplast AG

Spectroplast intends to use the fresh capital to open up new markets, deepen existing customer relationships and further expand the industrial use of its patented silicone technology.

Silicone: an underestimated material becomes suitable for industrial use

While 3D printing has encompassed a wide range of materials for years, silicone has long remained a gap - especially for precise and delicate components. Spectroplast, a spin-off from ETH Zurich, has closed this gap in the market. Its technology, Silicone Additive Manufacturing (SAM), enables the processing of 100% pure silicone without moulds, revolutionizing the production of flexible, biocompatible and durable components.

Due to its chemical structure, silicone offers exceptional properties such as biocompatibility and environmental resistance. With Spectroplast, these advantages can be fully utilized for 3D printing for the first time."

Strategic partnerships for the future of 3D printing

AM Ventures, a supporter of Spectroplast since its beginnings, also sees enormous potential in the partnership with the HZG Group to drive the startup's market expansion and technological development.

Spectroplast's technology is already being used in a wide range of industries, from medical technology and robotics to consumer electronics. Customers benefit from short development cycles, as the first components are often available within a few days.

"We plan to significantly expand our product families to offer completely new solutions for the most demanding applications," says Dr. Hafner. Spectroplast intends to use the fresh capital to realize its vision of becoming a leading global supplier of 3D printable silicones.
