Usercentrics and Cookiebot merge

The two companies are now combining their offerings for customer data management. The merger was initiated by VC Full In Partners.

Munich-based consent management platform Usercentrics is merging with Danish competitor Cybot, the company behind the Cookiebot software. Both Usercentrics and Cookiebot offer companies solutions to collect and manage their customers' data in compliance with privacy policies. The merged company will operate under the Usercentrics name and will continue to offer both companies' products. The deal was initiated by venture capitalist Full In Partners, which has stakes in both companies.

"Together with Cookiebot, we are in a stronger position to build an industry standard for user consent that leads in transparency and trust," said Usercentrics CEO and co-founder Mischa Rürup. Usercentrics investors Alstin Capital and Cavalry Ventures were also pleased with the deal. "The General Data Protection Regulation is a European export to the world. Usercentrics and Cookiebot, located in the birthplace of data protection, now manifest the drive for protection in a single global company," said Carsten Maschmeyer, Founding Partner of Alstin Capital.

Mischa Rürup and Vinzent Ellissen founded Usercentrics in 2017, with current CRO Jürgen Weichert joining two years later and Ellissen stepping down as CEO in 2020. To what extent the Usercentrics leadership shares responsibilities with Cybot CEO Daniel Johannsen was not initially disclosed.
