MMI strengthens its future: thanks to an investment from Vinci S.A., the Polish manufacturer is developing zero-emission buses and expanding its production to drive forward climate-friendly mobility.

Slupsk, Poland, August 27, 2024 - The Polish company MMI, a manufacturer of minibuses and midibuses, has secured €7.7 million in financing from the Vinci S.A. fund. This capital will be used to develop electric buses in three variants: Low-floor, normal-floor and low-entry vehicles. The company is also planning to develop an electrically powered minibus with a hydrogen fuel cell and to build a modern production hall in order to double its production capacity.

Environmentally friendly solutions for local public transport

Public transport is essential for everyday life, but conventional diesel buses are a heavy burden on the environment. According to the European Commission, heavy commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks account for more than 25% of CO₂ emissions from road traffic. MMI is responding to these challenges by developing zero-emission drives and innovative vehicle designs. These solutions are intended to help meet the new EU targets for zero-emission urban traffic by 2030.

Technological innovation: lightweight designs and modern drive systems

MMI relies on new technologies to maximize the range of its vehicles. One focus is on the use of lightweight composite constructions to significantly reduce the weight of the buses. Another goal is the development of synchronous motors that are integrated directly into the wheel hubs. These technologies should not only increase efficiency, but also improve the reliability of the buses.

Expansion in Europe: market opportunities and regulatory requirements

MMI plans to use the new capital to strengthen its market position in Poland and Western Europe. Within the next three years, the company aims to offer a complete range of minibuses and midibuses that meet the growing demands of the market. MMI sees great growth opportunities in countries such as Germany, Italy, France and the Scandinavian countries, particularly with regard to the EU directives for emission-free urban transportation.

Innovative design for international markets

The vehicle design developed by MMI is a European innovation and promises competitive advantages on the international market.

Our support for MMI strengthens sustainable developments and technological transformations in our region.

Piotr Woliński, CEO of Vinci S.A

MMI is focusing on sustainable growth by doubling its production capacity and further developing its drive technologies. Thanks to the investment, the company is well positioned to expand its position in Europe while meeting the requirements of the market and EU regulations.
