Bavaria sets up two scale-up funds with 250 million euros

The state government wants to support start-ups in their growth. Ten to 25 million euros are to be invested per investment.

The Bavarian state government is filling two scale-up funds with a total of 250 million euros. This is to provide financial support to start-ups from the Free State in the growth phase. "Compared to the rest of the world, growth-oriented start-ups from Germany still do not have it easy when it comes to financing," said Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters). "We are therefore happy to take this money in hand to support successful Bavarian start-ups." With the fund, he said, the state government wants to prevent start-ups from having to rely on foreign investors.

200 million euros will flow into the "ScaleUp Fund Bavaria", which is available for direct investments. The fund is managed by Bayern Kapital. It is intended to invest between ten and 25 million euros per investment. Private investors, however, must follow suit on equal terms, according to the precondition for participation. A further 50 million euros will be used by LfA Förderbank Bayern with the "ScaleUp-Dachfonds Bayern" for targeted fund-in-fund investments. The money will be invested in private VC funds, among others, with up to ten million euros each.
