Billie sets itself up for expansion

Shortly before the expansion, twelve employees have to leave. In return, the fintech wants to hire experienced staff.

According to information from Finance Forward Billie is repositioning itself. Last week, the "buy now, pay later" startup laid off twelve employees. At the same time, the fintech is looking for 37 new colleagues. The reason for the layoffs and new hires is a restructuring.

This year, Billie expanded its management team to prepare for its upcoming internationalization. First, the startup appointed co-founder Aiga Senftleben to its management team, then in May Billie brought Wayfair team leader Benjamin Hoskins on board as chief technology officer. Most recently, former Paypal executive Damien Perillat joined from French payment services provider Worldline to take over as CCO. "The new managers have reviewed their team structure and have come to the conclusion that Billie needs to grow up for what we are planning," Billie CEO Christian Grobe told Finance Forward. The laid-off employees will be replaced by experienced colleagues.

Next year, Billie then plans to expand within Europe with its "buy now, pay later" service for business customers. Every two months, the company plans to move to a new country, Grobe announced.
