&Charge secures 5 million euros for better charging infrastructure in Europe
The Frankfurt-based startup &Charge has closed a Series A financing round in the amount of 5 million euros. The round was led by the Warsaw Equity Group. Other investors include InnoEnergy, Redstone and Porsche Ventures.
The capital will be used to develop the operating platform and expand in the European market for charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
The problem of electromobility is shifting to operations
With the expansion of public charging infrastructure, the sheer number of charging points is becoming less decisive. The real challenges arise during operation: defective hardware, blocked charging points, access restrictions or lack of maintenance.
Although many operators have digital monitoring systems, they do not have a sufficient view of the actual conditions on site.
Hybrid model combines software and physical reality
&Charge addresses this problem with a hybrid approach of SaaS platform and decentralized execution network. The company combines digital data with information from a network of electric car drivers and local service partners.
This means that problems are not only identified, but also solved directly on site. This is done, for example, by reporting defective plugs, blocked charging points or missing signage. The platform enables operators to prioritize measures, coordinate service assignments and monitor implementation.
Already in use at large CPOs
Today, &Charge supports major charging infrastructure operators such as Ionity, Electra and Allego in several European markets. In total, over 50,000 charging points are managed via the platform. The aim is to transform the fragmented reality of charging operations into a standardized operating system.
Financing for the establishment of an operational management level
With the new funding, the company wants to develop a central control level that combines field data, usage data and service processes in one system. The aim is to improve the reliability of charging infrastructure and reduce the downtime of charging points.
The company emphasizes that availability alone is not enough. The decisive factor is what drivers actually experience on site. By combining digital data and physical execution, &Charge aims to create a new operational basis for charging infrastructure in Europe.
