Ecapital joins Numbat

With the help of the money, the startup aims to become the dominant provider of fast charging infrastructure in Europe.

According toVC Magazine, the cleantech startup Numbat is receiving a mid-double-digit million amount in a financing round. In addition to business angels and previous seed investors, eCapital is a new investor. The money is intended to scale sustainable high-power charging and promote the "rise of e-mobility." According to Bernd Arkenau, managing partner of Ecapital, the need for high-performance charging infrastructure will increase sharply in the coming years as the number of electric vehicles on the road rises.

Maximilian Wegener and Martin Schall founded the start-up in Kempten in 2021. According to the company's founders, the problem is that while the number of electric vehicles is growing, the infrastructure for fast charging is developing more slowly. High-power chargers (HPCs) are expensive to purchase and difficult to integrate into the electrical system. To address this, Numbat created a platform paradigm that combines HPCs and battery storage. This should facilitate electrical interconnections and reduce the load on the system. It should also make installation quick and easy. This should support the transition to a cleaner, more energy-efficient economy.

The strategy is currently being tested at 50 sites in order to establish Germany's densest regional fast-charging network by the end of this year. Another 600 systems are expected next year. The long-term goal, he said, is to dominate the European market for fast-charging infrastructure.
