Ecapital joins Numbat

The start-up wants to use the money to become the dominant provider of fast-charging infrastructure in Europe.
According to VC-Magazin, the cleantech start-up Numbat has received a mid double-digit million euro amount in a financing round. In addition to business angels and previous seed investors, eCapital is a new investor. The money is intended to scale up sustainable high-power charging and promote the "rise of e-mobility". According to Bernd Arkenau, Managing Partner of Ecapital, the demand for high-performance charging infrastructure will increase significantly in the coming years due to the rising number of electric vehicles on the road.
Maximilian Wegener and Martin Schall founded the start-up in Kempten in 2021. According to the company's founders, the problem is that while the number of electric vehicles is growing, the infrastructure for fast charging is developing more slowly. High-power chargers (HPCs) are expensive to purchase and difficult to integrate into the electrical system. To address this, Numbat has created a platform paradigm that combines HPCs and battery storage. This should facilitate electrical connections and reduce the load on the system. It should also be quick and easy to install. This should support the transition to a cleaner, more energy-efficient economy.
The strategy is currently being tested at 50 locations with the aim of creating the densest regional fast-charging network in Germany by the end of this year. A further 600 systems are expected to be installed next year. The long-term goal is to dominate the European market for fast-charging infrastructure.
