Spacelink buys from Mynaric

The US space company wants to use the components of the Gilching-based start-up for its satellite network. Further orders could follow.

The laser technology start-up Mynaric has concluded a lucrative deal: As the Gilching-based company announced, it will supply components to US-based Spacelink in the future.

Specifically, the deal involves Mynaric's laser-based communication technology, which is intended to facilitate communication in space where conventional transmission paths reach their limits. The order has a total volume of up to 28 million US dollars. Spacelink wants to build a global communications network that enables data transmission outside the Earth's atmosphere. To that end, the Washington, D.C.-based company is now building a satellite network that will also require the Mynaric parts.

"Our industrialized approach to manufacturing will allow us to meet growing demand as the Spacelink constellation grows," Tina Ghataore, Mynaric's CCO, said, pleased with the deal. The start-up had already signed a framework agreement with Spacelink in May. On this basis, Mynaric hopes to conclude further supply agreements in the near future.
