The spin-off of the Charité in Berlin was thus able to successfully conclude its Series A financing round.

In the end, at least according to Aignostics itself, the planned Series A financing round was even oversubscribed. The start-up, a spin-off of the Charité in Berlin, was able to raise 14 million euros. Venture capitalist Wellington Partners led the round. Existing investors Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund (BIVF), VC Fonds Technologie II managed by IBB Ventures and High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) also participated. The Carma Fund, initiated by Ascenion, also joined the round.

Aignostics develops artificial intelligence (AI)-based models developed for its pharmaceutical and biotech customers. These are designed to provide new insights into the disease biology of tissue samples. This is because while pathologists can only interpret individual tissue samples qualitatively, in-depth analysis of large data sets is needed, which the start-up aims to provide with its technology. According to the company, the AI models cover the most important tissue staining technologies. This, it said, will allow it to accelerate its research.

"With this new round of funding, we want to further expand our presence and our team," said Viktor Matyas, CEO and co-founder of Aignostics. "In particular, we will put a stronger focus on the U.S. market, where we have been active since the beginning of the year."

Aignostics started in 2018 in the Berlin Institute of Health's (BIH) Digital Health Accelerator Program, based on joint research with Charité in Berlin. Aignostics was spun off in early 2020. To date, the startup says it has raised nearly 20 million euros and has offices in Berlin and in Boston.
