Gorilla employees blockade warehouse

50 Gorillas employees have granted in a warehouse in Berlin-Mitte against the dismissal of their colleague. They also demanded better working conditions.

On Wednesday, about 50 drivers went on strike at a Gorillas warehouse in Berlin's Charlottenstraße. In the evening, workers also blocked the entrance of a second store on Torstraße. The employees shouted "We want Santiago back!", reports the Tagesspiegel. Santiago was a colleague who had been fired shortly before - allegedly for being late for a shift. This was reported by the "Gorillas Workers Collective" on Twitter, who called for the strike. Managers at the warehouse then called the police. The officers did not break up the strike, shortly before 10 pm the managers locked the warehouse, writes the Tagesspiegel.

"Actually, I like the work at Gorillas," one of the protesters told the Tagesspiegel. But there were grievances that the management did not take care of. Employees are often dismissed during their probationary period. The bosses are mainly interested in expanding their company as quickly as possible and brush off any criticism. Deliveries were not possible on Wednesday. Even colleagues who were not on strike could not continue working because the catchment area was blocked. Today, Thursday, the "Gorillas Workers Collective" is again calling for strikes.

Criticism of gorillas is mounting. The authorities in the Berlin district of Pankow are also taking regulatory action(Startbase reported). In the Pankow warehouse, the sidewalk is said to be used for storage, and residents are also bothered by the bicycles standing around. In all Berlin districts there are now complaints about gorillas. Thus, the Corona rules are often not observed or residents report disturbances of the peace.
