Sphere Entertainment and Berlin-based startup HOLOPLOT unveil world's most advanced sound system: Sphere Immersive Sound in Las Vegas. 3D audio beamforming and wave field synthesis provide crystal-clear, personalized sound for every seat.

Las Vegas / Berlin - Sphere Entertainment Co. has unveiled the world's most advanced immersive audio system in collaboration with Berlin-based startup HOLOPLOT. This new sound system offers crystal-clear, customizable sound for each individual seat and was developed specifically for the Sphere venue in Las Vegas, USA.

What makes Sphere special is not only the groundbreaking technology with the world's most advanced sound system, designed with sound quality at the forefront, but also the possibilities to immerse oneself in real and imaginary landscapes thanks to immersive experiences.

The Edge by U2

The Sphere immersive sound system consists of approximately 1,600 fixed HOLOPLOT X1 matrix array loudspeakers and a total of 167,000 individually amplified loudspeaker drivers. The audio technology uses HOLOPLOT 3D audio beamforming and wave field synthesis technology to deliver a controlled, consistent and crystal clear concert-quality sound experience to the entire audience of up to 20,000 people. In doing so, each member of the audience experiences an exceptional and individual listening experience.

A special feature of the sound system is that it is completely hidden behind the LED surface inside the Sphere. HOLOPLOT's software compensates for any loss of quality that might be caused by the LED screen, ensuring unaffected sound and an unrestricted LED surface that extends spherically around the audience, creating a fully immersive experience.

In addition, Sphere Immersive Sound also uses HOLOPLOT's unique wavefield synthesis technology to create virtual acoustic environments and direct audio content to listeners so that it appears very close to them, even though the source is far away.

HOLOPLOT, a Berlin-based company, has specialized in 3D audio beamforming and wave field synthesis technologies since its founding in 2011 and has received worldwide recognition for its audio innovations. Sphere Immersive Sound has already had a successful test run at the Beacon Theatre in New York, before the system has now been further adapted and scaled for the Sphere venue in Las Vegas.

The official opening of Sphere in Las Vegas is scheduled for Sept. 29 and will kick off with the first of 25 performances by Irish rock band U2, "U2: UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere." In addition, the Sphere Experience "Postcard from Earth," directed by Darren Aronofsky, will premiere on Oct. 6.
