Packwise closes Series A funding round

The Dresden-based start-up has raised a seven-figure sum and now wants to expand its market leadership.

Dresden-based start-up Packwise has raised a seven-figure sum in its Series A financing round. The young company did not disclose the exact amount. The Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen (TGFS) and the family offices Hüttenes hoch drei and Golzern Holding invested.

Packwise wants to enable companies in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries to gain transparency along their supply chain. With the help of the start-up, they can monitor the transport of their goods in real time and view data such as location, fill level or condition. To this end, the young company has developed Packwise Smart Cap, a sensor that is attached to the containers. In addition, Packwise Flow is a platform on which the data is displayed. Last year, the start-up received the German Innovation Award for its solution.

According to the start-up, companies also use the Packwise solution to reduce administrative work and costs in relation to deliveries to their own customers. "Thus, with the help of Packwise, production planning is optimized and the quality of products is ensured from filling to removal by the customer," says CEO Gesche Weger.

With the newly acquired capital, Packwise intends to drive its expansion in Europe, expand development and distribution partnerships, and tap into new international markets where business relationships would already be initiated. As a result, Packwise is apparently also seeking approval for its hardware in North America and other international markets. The start-up is also planning to launch the "ATEX/IECEx variant" of the Packwise Smart Cap by the end of 2022, which will enable the sensor to be used in explosion-proof areas.
