Packwise closes Series A financing round

The Dresden-based start-up has raised a seven-figure sum and now wants to expand its market leadership.

The Dresden-based start-up Packwise has raised a seven-figure sum in its Series A financing round. The young company did not disclose the exact amount. Investments were made by Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen (TGFS) and the family offices Hüttenes hoch drei and Golzern Holding.

Packwise aims to enable companies in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries to gain transparency along their supply chain. With the help of the start-up, they can monitor the transportation of their goods in real time and view data such as location, fill level and condition. To this end, the young company has developed the Packwise Smart Cap, a sensor that is attached to the containers. In addition, Packwise Flow is a platform on which the data is displayed. The start-up received the German Innovation Award for its solution last year.

According to the start-up, companies also use the Packwise solution to reduce the administrative effort and costs involved in supplying their own customers. "Packwise helps to optimize production planning and ensure the quality of products from filling to collection by the customer," says Managing Director Gesche Weger.

Packwise intends to use the newly acquired capital to drive forward its expansion in Europe, expand development and sales partnerships and tap into new international markets in which business relationships are already being established. Packwise is therefore apparently also aiming to obtain approval for its hardware for North America and other international markets. The start-up is also planning to launch the "ATEX/IECEx variant" of the Packwise Smart Cap at the end of 2022, which will enable the sensor to be used in explosion-protected areas.
