This is the second round of financing for Quantum-Systems within five months. The start-up wants to use the money to improve its software.

Drone manufacturer Quantum-Systems has closed a financing round with the participation of U.S. investor Peter Thiel, venture capital firm Project A and Sanno Capital Invest, and existing investor Bayern Kapital. According to information from T3n it was a sum in the amount of 17.5 million US dollars.

Quantum-Systems plans to put the capital into further growth and research and development of its artificial intelligence, autonomy, robotics and distributed computing. Founded in 2015, the company manufactures vertical take-off drones that are suitable for various applications. They are used in search and rescue operations after natural disasters, open-pit mining, irrigation optimization in agriculture, survey work on large construction sites, situational awareness and defense.

In August, the Gilching-based start-up supplied the Ukrainian armed forces with reconnaissance drones. The German government supported the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense with funds from the upgrade initiative for the acquisition. Two months earlier, Quantum-Systems closed a €30 million financing round.
