Quantum-Systems intends to use the capital to further scale its production and develop its drones, among other things.

Quantum-Systems has closed a Series A financing round of 30 million euros. The capital comes from a loan from the European Investment Bank and from the Bayern 2 growth fund from Bayern Kapital. Several existing investors also participated.

Quantum-Systems has existed since 2015 and is based in Gilching, Bavaria. The start-up develops electrically powered drones. The special feature: they take off and land vertically and then continue flying like an airplane. The drones can fly autonomously and stay in the air for up to 90 minutes - according to the company, this means the range is longer than that of other manufacturers. The system can be used in search and rescue operations after natural disasters, in open-pit mining, for irrigation optimization in agriculture, for surveying work on large construction sites and for situation mapping. Deutsche Bahn, for example, uses drones to inspect railroad tracks.

"The Series A round will allow us to further scale our production and establish ourselves as the international standard for vertical take-off and landing drones by investing more in our development capabilities and our sales team," said Frank Thieser, Quantum-Systems' chief financial and sales officer. Among other things, the startup plans to continue researching its swarm flight, autonomous flight and artificial intelligence.
