The Munich-based startup Regulate has closed a seed financing round of 1.4 million euros. The round was led by 4impact capital. The CDTM Venture Fund and several well-known founders and tech operators are also involved, including Personio co-founder Hanno Renner, entrepreneur Fabian Heilemann, Forto co-founder Michael Wax and CoachHub co-founder Marlena Hien.

The company is developing a platform for scientifically sound breathwork in everyday working life, positioning itself at the interface of mental health, human performance and the future of work.

Regulate wants to address the "human side" of AI transformation

The startup's basic assumption is that while companies are investing heavily in artificial intelligence, the mental strain on employees is becoming a key productivity problem.

The start-up argues that the speed of modern knowledge work will continue to increase due to AI, and with it stress, sensory overload and exhaustion. The start-up therefore relies on Breathwork as a low-threshold method for regulating stress and increasing concentration.

Human performance and resilience will become one of the defining challenges of the AI era

Regulate Breathwork

As evidence, Regulate refers to figures from Gallup and the WHO, among others. Low employee retention causes trillions in lost productivity worldwide, while mental stress such as anxiety disorders and depression also cause enormous economic damage.

Breathwork instead of classic wellness offers

Regulate does not see itself as a traditional wellness or meditation product. Instead, the start-up aims to integrate breathing exercises directly into work processes as a practical performance tool. The platform offers guided breathwork sessions for teams and companies. Regulate is also working on integrations with wearables and Workday systems in order to incorporate breathing and resilience training more strongly into the digital workplace.

According to the start-up, more than 50,000 sessions have already been completed via the platform in less than twelve months. The first corporate customers include Personio, Raiffeisen Bank International and Vattenfall.

Investors see growing market for human performance

4impact capital, an investor specializing in impact and tech companies, is leading the round. The investor consortium is complemented by the CDTM Venture Fund and several angel investors from the German start-up scene. The fresh capital will primarily be used for further product development, new live formats, additional integrations and the expansion of the team. At the same time, Regulate is planning to scale into other European markets.

The financing round shows that a new start-up category could develop around "human performance infrastructure". While many AI start-ups aim to increase the efficiency of processes, companies like Regulate address the question of how people deal with increasing pressure to perform. Technologies for reducing stress, increasing focus and mental resilience could become just as important as traditional productivity software in an AI-driven working world in the future.

It remains to be seen whether Breathwork will establish itself as an integral part of modern work organization in the long term. However, the interest shown by investors and initial major customers indicates that the topic is becoming significantly more relevant.
