The BMBF is supporting the start-up VoluLink, which connects IT students, companies and social organizations, with €175,000 in funding.

Munich, February 17, 2025 - The Munich-based startup VoluLink has received €175,000 in funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). As one of 19 teams selected from over 100 applications, the company will be supported as part of the "Society of Innovation - Impact Challenge at Universities" program. The aim of the funding is to drive forward the digital transformation in the social sector by connecting IT students, companies and social organizations in a targeted manner.

Digital solutions for the social sector

Social organizations often face major challenges when it comes to digital infrastructure. While companies use modern technologies to increase their efficiency, many social institutions lack resources and technical expertise. At the same time, there is a growing shortage of skilled workers in the IT sector.

This is where VoluLink comes in: The startup is developing a platform that offers IT students practical project opportunities, strengthens companies in their social responsibility and supports social organizations with digital solutions.

We have recognized that the social sector often does not have the IT capacity to implement digital innovations. With our platform, we connect students and companies with social organizations and thus create practice-oriented solutions with sustainable social added value

Benefits for everyone involved

The funding will enable VoluLink to further develop its platform and intensify collaboration between social organizations, companies and IT students. Everyone involved benefits:

  • Social organizations receive urgently needed digital solutions that make their work more efficient.
  • Companies can strengthen their social responsibility and at the same time get to know talented IT specialists at an early stage.
  • Students gain valuable practical experience that improves their career prospects.

"The funding enables us to further drive digital innovation in the social sector. We look forward to working with companies and students to develop solutions that make a real difference," emphasizes the VoluLink team.

Funding measures like this are an important step towards providing targeted support for impact start-ups. While traditional technology start-ups often have easier access to venture capital, socially oriented companies face greater financial challenges. Yet they make a decisive contribution to solving social problems - be it through digital innovations, sustainable business models or social integration.
