The language learning startup is apparently getting a big early investment. The CEO of eBay Classifieds is also involved.

Berlin-based startup Beelinguapp has received $1.1 million in investment funding, according to a tech.eu

report. According to the report, the seed funding was led by US venture capital Joyance Partners and Swiss EquityPitcher Ventures. Business angels involved include eBay Classifieds CEO Paul Heimann and Atomico.

The start-up was founded by Mexican English teacher David Montiel in Berlin. So far, the language learning app he developed has been downloaded about 3.5 million times. It allows users to read texts in two languages side by side and have the texts read aloud to them. This allows customers to read their favorite stories, fairy tales or news articles, for example. The start-up relies primarily on audio books, music and karaoke. Currently, 14 languages can be learned via the app.
