Circula wants to be more than just the expense app

Companies can use the app to subsidize their employees' lunches, for example. The start-up has brought a partner on board for this.

Berlin-based startup Circula continues to develop its software and wants to enter the same market as Spendit, for example. "Circula Benefits" is the name of the new feature now being integrated into Circula's app, which is designed to make it easier for companies to offer tax-efficient benefits to employees.

Companies can currently subsidise meals, for example, up to €6.57 per working day, tax-free or tax-reduced. With the new feature, companies will be able to subsidize employee meals in the app, for example by converting salary or artificially increasing salary. The feature is also intended for home office employees who can no longer use the company cafeteria, he said.

"Not least in the past Corona year, we've seen an increase in meal expenses being billed through Circula," says Nikolai Skatchkov, CEO and co-founder of Circula. "Since the tax expertise that goes into our app is a huge benefit to our clients, incorporating a tax-compliant meal allowance was the logical next step." Now, Circula is an "all-in-one employee expense app," he said. Ba Tax Group, a tax consulting firm, acted as a strategic partner.

Circula was founded in 2017 and aims to handle travel expense claims completely digitally. Just last week, it was announced that the Berlin-based start-up had closed a €4.3 million funding round.
