Companies can use the app to subsidize their employees' lunches, for example. The start-up has brought a partner on board for this.

The Berlin-based start-up Circula is continuing to develop its software and wants to enter the same market as Spendit, for example. "Circula Benefits" is the name of the new function that is now being integrated into the Circula app and is intended to make it easier for companies to subsidize employees in a tax-efficient way.

For example, companies can currently subsidize meals with up to 6.57 euros per working day tax-free or at a reduced rate. With the new feature, companies will be able to subsidize employees' meals in the app in future, for example by converting their salary or artificially increasing it. The feature is also intended for employees working from home who can no longer use the company canteen.

"Not least in the past coronavirus year, we have seen that more and more catering expenses are being settled via Circula," says Nikolai Skatchkov, CEO and co-founder of Circula. "Since the tax know-how that is embedded in our app is a great advantage for our customers, the integration of a tax-compliant meal allowance was the logical next step." Circula is now an "all-in-one app for employee expenses". The tax consultancy Ba Tax Group acted as a strategic partner.

Circula was founded in 2017 and aims to process travel expense reports completely digitally. Just last week, it was announced that the Berlin-based start-up had completed a financing round of 4.3 million euros.
