Gorillas: No more deliveries on Sunday

The food delivery service Gorillas announced on Twitter that it was complying with the law and protecting its employees with this measure. Some customers reacted with disappointment.
Sunday is usually a day off for employees, according to the Working Hours Act. This also applies to the food delivery service Gorillas, which has now announced that it will no longer deliver on Sundays in future. On Twitter, the Berlin start-up cites compliance with the law and the protection of its employees as its reasons for doing so.
"The delivery of everyday goods to end customers is not included in the list of exceptions and is therefore not permitted," the Berlin Senate Department for Integration, Labor and Social Affairs told Gründerszene.
The delivery service guarantees to bring food ordered via an app to its customers' homes within ten minutes. The service is currently available in four German cities. The start-up currently has more than 800 employees.
2021 got off to a difficult start for Gorillas: co-founder Jörg Kattner only announced his departure at the beginning of February. Deliveries are now only made six days a week, with weekends and off-peak times offering customers a decisive advantage over supermarkets.
