Seed funding for OMC°C

Wiesbaden, BMH Beteiligungs-Managementgesellschaft Hessen mbH and Companisto GmbH have invested in Office for Micro Climate Cultivation GmbH (OMC°C). The startup is developing a greening system with freestanding vertical surfaces.

Called the "Climate Farming System," the greening system uses annual climbing plants to grow freestanding modules to over seven meters in height in a very short time. These climbing plants form "plant sails" with a standard size of 18 square meters, capable of cooling their surroundings by up to 2.5°C.

We are on track to reach production readiness in the third quarter of 2023 and to move forward with the production setup.

Nicola Stattmann, Founder OMC°C

Each module has six plant sails and generates 270 cubic meters of fresh air daily through a total of 108 square meters of sail area. In addition, one module can store about 0.5 tons of CO2 per year. The modules can be completed in series and consist of a lightweight support structure and an automated irrigation system. They can be flexibly placed to provide shade where it is needed. The advantage cited is that the structures do not require direct earth space, as they are secured with screw elements.

We are pleased to now be able to make inner cities in particular greener and more livable with our new partners.

Carlotta Ludig, Founder OMC°C

The Climate Farming system is a scalable and cost-effective method for greening. OMC°C offers a complete solution that includes modules, consulting and services. The system is aimed at cities, businesses, and real estate companies that want to reduce their carbon footprint, cut costs, or comply with regulations. OMC°C plans to use the funding it receives to further develop its product and services, prepare for market entry, and expand its team. The amount of seed funding is not known.

For metropolitan areas in particular, we have never seen such an urgent need for innovative solutions in the areas of climate change mitigation, climate resilience and urban biodiversity.

Jürgen ten Elsen, Investment Manager BMH

The startup OMC°C has already achieved several awards for its system, including third place at the Frankfurt Founders Award 2022, and has also received funding from various organizations such as Hessen-Ideen, Frankfurt frischt auf and push! OMC°C is also supported by the Frankfurt Economic Development Corporation, the German Weather Service and the Senckenberg Nature Research Society. The Frankfurt-based startup was founded by Nicola Stattmann and Carlotta Ludig at the end of 2021 to counteract the increasing heating of urban centers.

In our view, the greening of urban infrastructures carries with it not only immediate local benefits but also socially relevant added value for increasing awareness of climate protection.
