The Finnish-German start-up IQM develops quantum computers. Now it is getting reinforcements for its board of directors: the chief supervisor of Biontech Helmut Jeggle is moving in at IQM. He is expected to help the start-up commercialize its products faster.

It wasn't until the end of 2020 that the start-up received another €39 million in a funding round, bringing the Series A round to €71 million. Also involved was Salvia, which is chaired by Helmut Jeggle. Another link between Biontech and IQM is formed by the brothers Andreas and Thomas Strüngmann, who are majority shareholders in Biontech and contributed the largest part of the 39 million euros subsequently delivered, as reported by Manager Magazin

. And the third interface is formed by the fund MIG, which not only invested in Biontech, but also led the financing round at IQM.

IQM was founded in 2019 as a spin-off from Aalto University and VTT Technical Research Center in Finland. Today, it employs 100 people at its Munich and Espoo offices. With the financing round last year, founder Jan Goetz wants to expand the team in particular.

In November 2020, IQM entered into a collaboration in Finland to advance the development of a first Finnish quantum computer. IQM has also paved the way for this in Germany: for some time now, IQM has been supporting a supercomputer at the Leibniz Computing Center in Munich. But IQM also wants to bring its quantum computers to companies.
