Doordash apparently wants to buy gorillas

The US delivery service wants to invest in Gorillas. The start-up's valuation is currently so low that a "sell-off" is imminent.

Gorillas is looking for new capital and wants to raise more than one billion US dollars in a financing round. The Berlin-based 10-minute delivery company is aiming for a valuation of six billion US dollars. But the dreams could be shattered; Gorillas currently hopes to be valued at 2.5 billion US dollars. The low valuation has probably caught the attention of Doordash. The US delivery service now wants to invest in Gorillas, if not take over the start-up, report the Financial Times and Sifted.

Gorillas now fears a "sell-off" because the search for new investors is currently at the "worst possible terms", sources from the Berlin start-up told Sifted. The concern is that Gorillas will be bought at a "low billion-dollar valuation".

In May, Doordash announced plans to come to Germany, but so far the expansion has not worked out. Apparently, the American delivery service wants to "capitalize on Gorillas' market share in Europe", as Sifted writes with reference to sources. Doordash was founded eight years ago and is currently valued at 59 billion US dollars.

The increasing criticism of Gorillas has apparently also dampened the start-up's rapid growth. In addition to strikes and blockades by suppliers, there was also a penalty notice in Berlin and a dispute over the establishment of a works council. Most recently, founder Kagan Sümer was also criticized. He is said to have been fired by his former employer Rocket Internet Venture for alleged drug use. Sümer told the magazine The Information magazine that he had taken "performance-enhancing drugs" in order to meet the demands of his job.
